Alex grew up on a grain farm in rural Saskatchewan, which means his first exposure to emergency medicine was as a patient. Somehow, seeking treatment for harvest-related injuries sparked an interest in acute care, so Alex moved to the big city (Saskatoon) to pursue an undergraduate degree and medical school.
Once an alternate for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 800m relay team, Alex decided to increase his cool factor by switching to mountain biking and rock climbing and move to BC. If you are ever looking for Alex, just check Strava – he and his partner are likely spending their free time on the incredible trails around the Okanagan with their pooch, Ranger.
Academically, Alex is still trying to figure out a way to combine his ability to operate heavy machinery with emergency medicine. Who knows though? Maybe that rural get-er-done attitude will find a way into his future practice.
