After 14 years in hospitality, a stint as a London sommelier, touring in a rock band, building his own restaurant, and completing a sociology master’s at the London School of Economics, emergency medicine somehow felt like the natural career progression.
Evan is fond of telling anyone who will listen that emergency departments and restaurants are more alike than dissimilar, and that both can learn a lot from each other. His love of EM stems from a desire to extend hospitality and accompaniment to those struggling through some of the worst days of their lives. It is an insane honor for him to work in a place whose guiding ethos is to give on-the-ground care and humanity to those who need it most urgently. This is convenient, as after spending a portion of his life living in libraries and coffee shops writing research papers, policy reports, and grant proposals, Evan is afflicted with the inability to ever tolerate desk-based work again.
Outside the hospital, Evan can usually be found petting neighborhood cats, avoiding his duolingo Spanish notifications, eating and drinking his way through new cities, or searching for his next hyperfixation. He is happiest being on mountains with skis and his partner, Sam, but will begrudgingly trade the skis for sunshine and hiking boots if necessary. Most of his best days involve a farmers market.
