Riley Reel, Vancouver Island Site

Riley was born and raised in Cranbrook, BC, but upon moving to Victoria eight years ago, she decided she never wanted to leave. During her time in Victoria, she has developed an emotional attachment to the ocean, pushed the limits of her max heart rate on Mount Doug, and tried every London Fog in the city (Café Fantastico is the winner FYI).

Prior to medical school, Riley worked as a cardiac nurse. Although she loved her career, Riley is someone who hates financial stability, so she made the obvious choice to leave her secure, well-paying job to return to student life where she could fulfill her true passion: free labour.

As one-third of the Jakari team, Riley has set herself apart as the white cloud of the group. While her co-residents do ED thoracotomies, Riley focuses on strengthening her history-taking skills with the weak and dizzy in ambulatory. She prefers to let her co-residents see the action so she can achieve her goal of remaining a student forever.

Standing at 5 feet 2 inches, what Riley lacks in height, she makes up for with enthusiasm (and a footstool when necessary). Riley is known for loving magic shows, going to sleep at 8pm, having an irrational (rational?) fear of spiders, and for forcing other residents to listen to the 10-minute version of “All Too Well”.
